One of the most exciting advances in the treatment of certain skin disorders, including psoriasis, vitiligo, and eczema, is a non-invasive, non-chemical, and painless modality that can help to reduce the occurrence of outbreaks and the progressive spread of symptoms. Narrow Band UVB is a light-emitting technology that utilizes a specific wavelength (311 to 312 nm) selected for its therapeutic effect and minimal risk. As a result, patients with photo-responsive skin conditions typically find relief without the traditional side effects associated with many medications or other more invasive procedures. The skilled dermatologists at Sanova Dermatology utilize this revolutionary device to help a wide range of individuals reduce symptoms, enhance their quality of life, and regain a strong sense of confidence.
Treatment
Broadband UVB light has previously been utilized as treatment for a number of skin conditions. However, these broadband light waves, as the name suggests, include a wide range of wavelengths, some of which can potentially harm the skin if exposure lasts too long. Narrow band UVB light, on the other hand, emits just one wavelength. This targeted treatment delivers the highest level of efficacy in a safe and controlled fashion. As a result, patients can receive more aggressive treatment typically without the side effects that could result with broadband light. This also means a wider range of people can use this technique for relief of their symptoms, and that results typically occur faster and last longer. Studies have shown that controlled and regulated exposure to narrow band phototherapy does not increase the risk for skin cancer.
When compared with other modalities, such as systemic immunosuppressants and biologic medication, narrow band phototherapy has fewer risks and adverse reactions. Furthermore, if a patient decides to discontinue treatment, disease rebound and/or sudden flare ups of symptoms and outbreaks are less commonly encountered with narrow band UVB compared with other therapies.
At Sanova Dermatology, our patients’ health and safety is our highest priority. We offer the Daavlin UV Series to help address skin conditions affecting the entire body. Our private and powerful device is large enough to accommodate a full person standing up, and treatment sessions often will be kept short in consideration of individuals’ time and comfort. When arriving for the initial consultation, our dermatologists will determine if the patient’s needs and goals can be addressed with the Daavlin Narrow Band UV Series, and they will develop a customized treatment plan that can help reduce symptoms and enhance wellbeing.
