Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT)

Almost half of adult Americans will develop a form of non-melanoma skin cancer, either basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. Although spreading is not common, not treating these cancers could result in the harm of tissue in the surrounding area.

Common areas for these two forms of non-melanoma skin cancer are the legs, arms, or even the face. Previously, the only way to treat skin cancer was to remove them from the skin surgically. This can take quite a bit of time, anesthesia, and can also result in scarring in some cases.

At Sanova Dermatology, we pride ourselves on offering state of the art treatments that can offer innovative new ways to treat skin conditions like skin cancer. SRT-100, known as Superficial Radiation Therapy, emits low-energy radiotherapy that strategically targets the layer of the skin right beneath the surface, similar to that of an X-ray. This technology is a great option for non-melanoma skin cancers that are minimal and shallower.

This is also a great option for those who prefer a non-surgical route. The 90-second treatment involves no anesthesia and cuts down on treatment time exponentially. In just a few sessions you are able to treat the cancer, with little to no discomfort. As this procedure is non-invasive, there is no risk of scarring. This is a great option for those who have surface-level skin cancers in sensitive areas like the eyelid, nose, ears, etc. Once treatments have begun, scabbing is common, but will soon be replaced by fresh healthy skin.

If you have non-melanoma skin cancer, or have yet to be checked, visit us at Sanova Dermatology to ensure that your skin is healthy and free of skin cancer.
