The Most Common Locations to Find Skin Cancer

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that affects the skin cells, and can occur due to exposure to UV rays or other factors. The good news is that skin cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer and can be treated successfully if detected early. However, it’s important to know where skin cancer is most commonly found in order to detect any irregularities early on. In this blog post, we will explore the most common locations to find skin cancer.

Face and Scalp – The face and scalp are the most common places to find skin cancer due to their high exposure to the sun. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common types of skin cancer found on the face and scalp. It is recommended to use a hat with a wide brim or apply sunscreen regularly to protect these areas.

Neck and Chest – The neck and chest are also common areas to find skin cancer, as they are also frequently exposed to the sun. Basal cell carcinoma and melanoma are the most common types of skin cancer found in these areas. It’s important to check these areas frequently and look out for any moles that change in size, shape, or color.

Arms and Hands – The arms and hands are also high-risk areas for skin cancer, as they are regularly exposed to the sun and remain uncovered during outdoor activities. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer found on the arms and hands. Make sure to apply sunscreen on the arms and hands as well as other uncovered parts of the body.

Legs and Feet – The legs and feet are also at risk for skin cancer, especially for those who wear sandals or open-toed shoes or who frequently expose their legs to the sun. Squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma are the most common types of skin cancer found on the legs and feet. It’s important to wear protective clothing while going out in the sun, especially during hot and sunny weather.

Back and Shoulders – The back and shoulders are also frequently exposed to the sun. Melanoma is the most common type of skin cancer found on the back and shoulders. It is important to ask a partner or loved one to regularly check your back and shoulders, as these areas are difficult to see. Remember to apply sunscreen when going out in the sun.

Skin cancer is a serious issue, but it is preventable and treatable when detected early. By knowing the most common areas where skin cancer is found, you can help protect yourself by using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, checking for irregularities regularly, and having your skin checked by a dermatologist. Don’t forget to spread the word to your loved ones and encourage them to take the necessary steps to protect their skin as well.
