What is laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing uses advanced laser technology to treat a variety of issues related to the tone and texture of your skin, including fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and acne scars.

What are the different types of lasers?

  • Ablative: Removes the outer layers of the skin and heats the underlying skin, stimulating the growth of new collagen fibers. Ablativelasers are used for more intense skin resurfacing treatments, such as reducing deeper wrinkles and scars.
  • Non-ablative: Heats up the underlying skin tissue without harming the surface so that your body will produce new collagen. They are less invasive and require less downtime than ablative lasers, making them a popular choice for less severe skin concerns and routine rejuvenation.
  • Fractional: Breaks up the laser energy into thousands of tiny beams to treat only a fraction of the skin in the area, which reduces downtime. This technique allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, as the healthy, untreated tissue around the microscopic treatment zones helps with the healing process.

The benefits of laser resurfacing

  • Skin rejuvenation: Promotes new collagen production, resulting in younger-looking skin.
  • Skin tightening: Improves skin laxity by stimulating the deeper layers of the skin.
  • Skin smoothing: Reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and rough textures.
  • Customized treatments: Each laser treatment is tailored to address specific skin issues and skin types.

What laser resurfacing treatments do we offer?

At Sanova Dermatology, we offer a wide variety of the most effective, cutting-edge lasers on the market, including:

  • elōs® Plus: Combines optical energy with radiofrequency to effectively treat skin texture and tone, hair removal, and acne scars.
  • Vascular laser therapy: Targets and diminishes vascular skin concerns, such as spider veins and broken capillaries, using focused laser energy.
  • Candela® GentleYag Pro-U: Ideal for skin tightening and hair removal, this laser works well on all skin types, including darker skin tones.
  • Isolaz acne light treatment: Uses a vacuum and broadband light to deep clean pores and treat acne, providing a significant reduction in acne lesions and skin oiliness.
  • Cutera: Excel V™: Treats a range of vascular conditions, skin discoloration, and age spots through a high-power green laser that targets abnormal blood vessels and pigmentations.
  • Profractional XC™: A fractional laser treatment that effectively targets deeper dermal layers, promoting new collagen growth for skin rejuvenation and textural improvement.
  • CO2RE® | CO2: A versatile fractional CO2 system that addresses wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation while offering skin resurfacing benefits.
  • CO2RE® Intima: A specialized laser for non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation that helps with symptoms like dryness, itching, and loss of elasticity.
  • Photofractional: Combines IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and fractional resurfacing technology to reduce pigmentation, fine lines, and textural irregularities.
  • Sciton® Halo: A hybrid fractional laser that simultaneously delivers nonablative and ablative wavelengths, achieving deep dermal rejuvenation with minimal downtime.
  • Sciton® BroadBand Light (BBL): Sets new standards for treating skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles, and sun damage.
  • Sofwave™: Uses ultrasound technology to lift and tighten the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin production.
  • Ultherapy®: A non-invasive ultrasound treatment that lifts and tightens the skin on the face, neck, and chest by targeting the deeper layers of the skin.

During an inital consultation, one of our board-certified dermatologists will help determine which laser is best to treat your unique concerns. Schedule today at one of our convenient locations across Texas (Houston, Pflugerville, Austin, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs) or Louisiana (Metairie, Old Metairie, Uptown New Orleans, Baton Rouge).

LASER RESURFACING CAN HELP WITH THESE CONDITIONS:

Most treatments require little to no downtime, allowing patients to return to their daily activities almost immediately. However, laser treatments can often make the skin temporarily red and/or sensitive, similar to the symptoms of a sunburn.

Patients should take extra care to avoid sun exposure and protect the skin until it heals, using an SPF of at least 30.

The number of treatment sessions will depend on the specific type of laser being used and what your goals are. During your consultation, your cosmetic dermatology provider will recommend a specific number of sessions.

Discomfort during laser resurfacing treatments are minimal, with most treatments requiring only topical anesthetic or no anesthesia at all.

Most sessions last less than an hour.
