4 Tips For The Back-to-School You

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

The time has come again for school to begin. Along with the frenzy of fresh school supplies and finding classes, is making sure that you are doing all that you can to give your skin that fresh start it needs.

Have A Skin Routine

As you begin to vary your day with school, classes, studying and socializing, it is important that you have the comfort of a solid skin routine. Avoiding the unwanted breakouts and dry patches is something that we all wish for. “Changes in your environment and new stresses can all impact your skin and complexion,” explains Dr. Miriam Hanson, a board certified Dermatologist in Austin, Texas. “And this is all the more reason to have a consistent and reliable skin care routine.” Dr. Hanson recommends is some essential items for clear and healthy skin, including a cleanser, moisturizer, toner, and sunscreen.

Un-Make Your Bed

Turns out mom is sometimes right. Not changing your sheets regularly can contribute to breakouts! Skin debris, oil, saliva and bacteria accumulate on our sheets and pillowcases, which then have the opportunity to aggravate your skin night after night. “I’ve often seen this as a  contributor to a finicky complexion,” states Dr. Hanson. Get into the habit of changing your sheets at least once a week, this allows for a clean resting place for your skin to breathe and rejuvenate at night.

Scrub-a-dub-dub

Although there will always be that all-nighter, whether it be a study session or party, it is extremely important that you take the time to remove your make-up before you go to bed. “Your sleeping hours, away from UV rays and pollution, allows your skin to rejuvenate and replenish itself,” says Dr. Hanson. “That means that you need to allow your pores to be open and clear so that your skin can do its job, making sure you look fresh-faced in the morning.” Make sure to clean  your make-up brushes as well – skin debris, oils and bacteria can cling to your brushes as well, causing a potential breakout.

Hydrate

As with general health, it is always important to hydrate. This allows the skin to release its toxins through sweat, which helps to release debris from within the pores. This also helps with keeping the skin supple and smooth, and avoiding from dry patches and a dusky complexion.
