A Brief Review of Non-invasive Cosmetic Treatment Options for Turkey Neck

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

A common problem for many men and women as they age is the dreaded ‘turkey neck’, or loose, sagging skin under the chin and jawline. “Turkey neck can be caused by a number of factors, including aging, weight change, but most commonly is attributed to genetics,” explains Dr. Adam Mamelak, a board certified Dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology. Until recently, the most common treatment for turkey neck was a surgical neck lift or other painful invasive procedure to remove excess fat and tighten the skin.

Fortunately, modern advances in dermatological medicine have created a number of exciting, non-invasive treatments for this condition that have none of the pain and potential side-effects of traditional surgical treatments. Three of the most common treatments are Kybella, CoolSculpting and Elos Sublime.

Let’s take a quick look at each of the three treatment options:

Kybella: Kybella is an injectable treatment that can give dramatic improvement for patients with pockets of fat under their chin and slight to moderate skin sagging. Kybella’s active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance that works by permanently destroying fat cells. Depending on the individual patient, Kybella is administered via a series of injections over a period of weeks or months. “The end result is a leaner, more defined jawline and profile that effectively eliminates the appearance of turkey neck!” says Dr. Mamelak shares.

CoolSculpting: CoolSculpting is a revolutionary body sculpting system that works by used controlled freezing to pinpoint and destroy fat cells in the targeted area in a painless, one-time procedure. This completely non-invasive fat reduction system requires no injections and works by destroying fat cells through a process of freezing and crystallization. “The dead fat cells are then simply re-absorbed by your body over a period of time, leaving you with a smooth, sculpted jawline,” says Dr. Mamelak. CoolSculpting leaves no scars and requires no downtime or recovery period.

Elos Sublime: Elos Sublime is a completely non-invasive, fast, and virtually painless treatment for sagging skin that can provide quick and dramatic improvements for patients suffering from turkey neck. Elos Sublime offers a number of advantages over laser treatment, which can be too painful for many patients. “Unlike laser skin tightening treatments, which apply much higher energy levels to the area being treated, Sublime uses bipolar radio frequency and light energies to precisely heat the problem area,” explains Dr. Mamelak. This stimulates collagen production, which fills out wrinkles while providing a firming effect on the skin. The treatment also reduces fine wrinkles while created a smoother, more even skin tone. Most patients require a series of treatments with the number of total treatments depending on the individual needs of the patient.
