Halo is the first fractionated laser that uses both ablative and non-ablative technology. The ablative wavelength targets tiny pathways in the skin, leaving the area around it unscathed. Meanwhile, the non-ablative wavelength drills little thermal injuries into the skin, which trigger collagen and elastin production (the stuff that minimizes fine lines and wrinkles). “Halo fires these two wavelength simultaneously, making it better than either one alone and it’s better for the patient in terms of recovery and comfort compared to older technologies such as CO2 or Fraxel which require a week or more of downtime and sometimes raw-looking skin,” explains Emily Rodrigues, certified medical aesthetician and licensed laser technician at Sanova Dermatology in Bee Cave, Texas.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Generally you and your clinician can choose how many treatments you want. “Depending on the skin conditions you are treating and the aggressiveness of the treatment, you may choose to have one or two deeper treatments or have multiple treatments that are less aggressive and achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time,” shares Rodrigues
What Happens After the Treatment?
For the first 24 hours, you should keep your skin protected according to instructions and stay away from the sun. After that, you should be able to resume normal activities. Typically after 24 hours your skin will begin to peel, but you will be able to put makeup on. “Initial results will be seen between day 2 and 5, but improvements will continue over the following 2-3 weeks,” says Rodrigues.
How Long Will Results Last?
Halo results may last for years, as long as you protect your new healthy skin at all times with sunscreen and a hat, however follow-up or maintenance treatments are recommended.
