Competitors to Botox? Do They Really Work?

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

Botox is quite possibly one of the most revolutionary anti-aging procedures to happen since the facelift was invented. While there are plenty of other procedures out there, Botox is probably the most talked about.

One reason for its popularity is that it’s inexpensive and minimally invasive. There is no downtime and for so many people, it’s an accessible, entry-level procedure that makes a noticeable difference in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Botox is so well-established that many people don’t even realize there are other alternatives. When it comes to other neuromodulator procedures, the main competition is Dysport.

Dysport is also a botulinum type A protein that is injected into the skin. “The primary difference lies in molecule size and measurement. Dysport is formulated using a smaller molecule but still works through the same method that Botox does,” explains Dr. Miriam Hanson, cosmetic dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology.

Xeomin works just like Botox and Dysport, but is a newer product than the two. Both Xeomin and Dysport are often less expensive than Botox. “It often comes down to personal preference,” says Dr. Hanson. Often patients will gravitate towards one product over the other. Dr. Hanson feels it’s less to do with the products effectiveness, but more about understanding differences in dosage and application. “Being able to individualize treatments, match the procedure to the patient, is key when using different products like these.”

Botox Alternatives?

Is there a way to get Botox results without injectables? There are topical products, such as those containing Retinoids, vitamin C, antioxidants and peptides that can help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles over time. You can also get excellent results using laser treatments and dermal fillers.
