FDA Approves Dupilumab for Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis!

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

Medical researchers are constantly working to find new and more precise ways to treat the many health conditions and diseases found worldwide. Each and every discovery makes an impact on patients, which can ultimately be a life-changing experience. Skin Disease is no different, and new treatments often bring great benefit to patients that suffer from everything form acne breakouts, to more chronic diseases like Atopic Dermatitis.

“Atopic Dermatitis appears as dry and inflamed patches on the skin,” explains Dr. Adam Mamelak, board certified Dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology. This chronic disease is once of the most common forms of eczema, which affects of 35 million U.S. citizens.

Many of the treatment options currently available for Atopic Dermatitis include ointments or creams. But what if these topical medications don’t work for you?

What is Dupilumab (Dupixent)?

Dupilumab, an injectable treatment, is an alternative therapy designed for those patients who are not seeing a response to other treatments. “Dupilumab works by blocking the proteins IL-4 and IL-13, two cytokines in the body that are overactive in Atopic Dermatitis and known to incite the inflammation and irritation that patients experience,” Dr. Mamelak shares.

This medication is well tolerated and has been proven to significantly decrease the itch and skin lesions observed in this condition.

“It is important for you to consult with your dermatologist to learn more about treatment options for your moderate-to-severe Atopic Dermatitis, and other skin conditions,” urges Dr. Mamelak. Each patient’s condition can vary, as should their treatment as well.
