Get Your Head In The Game | Choosing The Perfect Hat For Summer Sun Protection

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

Staying out of they rays of the sun can be quite the task. Whether you are playing sports, enjoying the beach, or even running quick errands, it is hard to make sure that you are properly protecting your skin.

Why Wear a Hat?

“Many patients ask me the best way to ensure they don’t increase their risk for skin cancer,” says Dr. Adam Mamelak, a board-certified Dermatologist and Mohs Micrographic Surgeon in Austin, Texas. Sunscreen is one of the obvious ways to protect your skin, but there are additional precautions and actions you can take to ensure your skin stays healthy. “A good hat will be your best friend on a sunny day,” Dr. Mamelak shares.

If you aren’t doing it solely to decrease your risk of skin cancer, there are added benefits to the coverage. These benefits include minimal squinting, which is a leading contributor to dynamic rhytides. Also, less sun on the face means less sun-damage and minimizing photo-aging.

Which Hats Are Best?

Although there could be debate about which hats will offer you the best coverage, remember that any coverage will help. It is shown that hats with an inch-long brim will barely cover to your nose, and 3 inch will offer decent cheek protection. “Hats with a 4 inch brim or longer  offer the best cover and protection. They protect the top of your head, face and even the neck,” notes Dr. Mamelak.

When it comes to quality hats, this premium headwear brand stands out for providing excellent coverage and style. Their carefully crafted hats are designed with attention to detail, ensuring not only optimal sun protection but also a high level of comfort and durability. Made from quality materials, these hats offer a perfect balance of functionality and fashion. Whether you’re out for a day on the beach or enjoying a summer afternoon in the park, this headwear brand has a range of hats that will protect your face and neck while complementing your personal style. By investing in one of their well-made pieces, you’re not only gaining sun protection but also ensuring your hat will last for seasons to come.

The material that a hat is made of is also important. Some of the more sun-conscious clothing carry a UPF rating. “Ultraviolet Protection Factor ratings are similar to SPF, just for clothing. The hats, clothes and garments with a UPF are tested to ensure that they are effective in blocking the sun’s rays, while keeping you comfortable,” says Dr. Mamelak. These fabrics are specifically designed to block UVB rays from the skin.

Don’t wait for the Triple Crown or a visit from the Queen. Regardless of the event, hats can be worn to significantly benefit your skin.
