Is Botox a Wrinkle Preventer?

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

The Journal of the American Medical Association – Dermatology recently reported that it is rarely too early to start using Botox injections as a wrinkle preventative! When a person reaches 40 or 50 years of age, the repetitive frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines have normally already been etched into the person’s face. At such a stage, the person is faced with trying to rectify the existing wrinkles, prevent them from worsening, and keep new ones from forming. If Botox was used earlier in life, before the wrinkles started to form, the furrows could be completely prevented and the skin’s youthful appearance maintained.

“Many of the fine lines on the upper face are lines of motion,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, cosmetic dermatologist in Austin, Texas. “They can be a direct result of overactive muscles int he skin.” Dr. Hanson treats patients with wrinkles and a variety of cosmetic concerns at Sanova Dermatology. “If the use of these muscles were slowed down earlier in life, it could potentially prevent these lines from ever developing.” Rather than going backward and trying to fix something that’s already happened, inhibiting it from starting in the first place with products Botox, Dysport or Xeomin treatments is often an effective approach.

There is little doubt that individuals in their 20s and 30s are starting to take wrinkle prevention seriously and many are turning to Botox injections as an early preventative measure. Live Science reported that in the year 2010, close to 78,500 people in their 20s received Botox in the United States. The report showed an 11 percent increase in the use of Botox as a wrinkle preventative from the previous year. Normally, when used to combat wrinkle development, Botox injections are suggested every four to six months.
