Layering For Fall!

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

With the temperatures beginning to fall, clothing and cosmetics are coming back in layers! It is time to start thinking about how to properly layer your skincare products to fully benefit your face and skin!

1. Wash Your Face! One of the most crucial parts of your skin routine is exfoliation and removal of clogged oil from your pores. This leaves your skin feeling fresh and ready to embrace the next layer of skincare products! “Overnight your skin sloughs off its top layer of cells and begins to build fresh new skin, which makes it very important to cleanse the skin in the morning. This will help remove of these dry and unhealthy skin cells,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, a board certified Dermatologist in Austin, Texas.

2. Apply Eye CreamIs eye cream really necessary? “Blinking, squinting, and straining can cause muscles around the eyes to become overworked and reveal clues to your age,” Dr. Hanson notes. This causes the area to be more prone to showing lines and wrinkles. Eye creams tend to be a bit thicker, allowing them to fully penetrate the thin and sensitive skin beneath the eyes. Make sure to apply the cream with your ring finger, as this is the finger with the lightest touch and the skin below the eye is extremely sensitive. This step in the process can be very crucial in preventative skincare.

3. SerumsSometimes known as liquid gold, serums can be key to helping tame, tone, and replenish the skins necessary vitamins and hydration. Serums can contain a plethora of antioxidants, and can also help rejuvenate your skin. “I often offer this to patients who are hoping to make a difference with their skin,” states Dr. Hanson, who believes that maintaining a proactive regimen can help your skin stay healthy and youthful.

4. Neocutis Hyalis or Skinceuticals B5 gelThese Hyaluronic Acid containing gels is extremely hydrating, and helps keep the skin plump and healthy. This step is great for those with dry skin, or those who would like to add that extra moisture and vitamins to the skin.

5. SunscreenA Dermatologist will tell you that this could be the most crucial part of your skincare regime. This step helps shield you from the UVA & UVB rays that the sun beams down on you. It helps to minimize sun-damage, aging, and chances of developing skin cancer.

6. Make UpProbably considered the most creative part of the routine, it is finally time to apply your make up now that you have a great, beneficial base coat of moisturizing, protecting, and preventative skin care.

7. Reapply SunscreenJust because summer is on its way out, doesn’t mean that you should stop applying sunscreen regularly. The sun does not stop shining in the fall and winter, so you should continue with your consistent reapplications of sunscreen every few hours will continuously help you stay protected from the sun!

Each individual can have their own variations of this skincare layering routine, and it is always important to do what is best for your skin. Troublesome complexions can be helped with a series chemical peels or customized facial. Consult with your Dermatologist about products that suit your skin type, and find products that “do something” for you!
