Platelet Rich Plasma + Microneedling For Acne Scarring

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

Living with acne scarring can sometimes be embarrassing, and can prevent you from looking and feeling your best. In the past, very few effective treatments for acne scarring existed and most had significant recovery time. However, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a newly developed method used to treat acne scars and other skin issues. “PRP uses growth factors in your own blood to rejuvenate the skin,” notes Sally Santos, physician assistant at Sanova Dermatology in Austin, Texas. “The process involves drawing blood from your body, separating it into different components, and the reintroducing beneficial blood platelets into the skin of the face,” she explains.

The platelets in our blood are naturally beneficial to our skin. Platelets stimulate wound healing, and promote the regrowth of collagen and elastin, which keep your skin young-looking and healthy. When your blood is introduced back into your skin, the body uses those platelets to heal acne scars and other skin defects. This treatment can be used on its own, or combined with others, such as microneedling, for striking results.

Utilizing PRP with microneedling, like those offered by Microneedling in Arvada, CO not only offers the skin rejuvenating benefit of strategically damaging the skin to stimulate collagen growth, but also the enhancing benefits of collagen-boosting plasma.

The best part is, there is no down time after the procedure. You can get back to your daily life right away. The treatment is quick, and side effects are minimal because it does not use heat. Because the blood is coming from your own body, there are no chances of allergies or rejection. “Many people begin to notice a difference right away, with full results taking a few weeks to appear,” shares PA Santos.  A series of 3 treatments is recommended.
