PRP + Microneedling : The Ultimate Rejuvenation Procedure

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

A PRP + microneedling procedure uses a combination of the retexturing microneedling procedure and platelet rich plasma (PRP). The procedure is essentially a regenerative therapy which uses growth factors in the patient’s own blood. These growth factors are administered to the skin when the patient is having a micro-needling ‘facial’.

“Micro-perforations created in the patient’s skin allow the PRP to penetrate and stimulate new collagen growth, while improving tone and texture of the skin,” explains Dr. Miriam Hanson, dermatologist and cosmetic skin specialist at Sanova Dermatology in North Austin. Before the procedure a topical anesthetic cream is used to help numb the skin, minimizing any discomfort.

What Is It Used For?

Microneeding with PRP will help improve a person’s skin tone as well as help retexturize the skin. “The combination of these two procedures is the ultimate anti-aging treatment, designed to boost collagen, help with acne scarring, and rejuvenate the skin,” says Dr. Hanson. It can help keep the skin looking younger for years to come. It is also all the rage in Hollywood among celebrities including the likes of Kim Kardashian.

It also helps with a host of aesthetic concerns by improving the appearance of wrinkles/scars/stretch marks, rejuvenates the under-eye area (removes those tired looking ‘bags’ under the eyes), tightens stubborn open pores that will not otherwise close, and plumps the skin to make the patient look younger.

How Is It Performed?

The procedure starts with a simple blood draw. A sample of blood is taken from the patient and spun down in a small machine that isolates the body’s natural growth factors. These growth factors, known as platelet rich plasma are then applied to the skin to enhance the microneedling treatment.

While initially, the patient will have a slightly puffy, red face from the treatment, after 24-48 hours when the treatment areas heal, the skin will be volumized and younger looking. The treatment is generally painless to undergo. Treatments are often performed as a series of three or more, with each session spaced four to six weeks apart. Some clients may only need one treatment for it to prove to be effective. Maintenance treatments a number of months to a year after the initial procedure may be recommended in selected patients. Expect each treatment to take about 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

PRP for skin and hair treatments are typically considered cosmetic treatments, and are not covered by insurance companies.
