Restylane Silk: A New Treatment Option For Lips And Tear Troughs

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

Recently, a new dermal filler was approved by the FDA for the mouth and lips. Restylane Silk, a unique gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, has seen great results in clinical settings. It is similar to other Restylane products in that it is non-animal based, but it also contains the local anesthetic, Lidocaine, to help make the procedure much more comfortable. It has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than other dermal fillers on the market which means it lasts longer and works better on wrinkles and fine lines.

“Silk is a much finer filler compared to Restylane and Restylane Lyft,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic expert that uses Restylane Silk to treat her patients in Austin, Texas. “It was a much appreciated addition to the Restylane family. Finally something ideally suited for the delicate skin and finer lines under the eyes and around the mouth.”

What Are the Benefits of Restylane Silk?

The lips and mouth begin showing signs of aging with the appearance of wrinkles and vertical lines making many feel self-conscious. Restylane Silk has been FDA approved to specifically treat these. In a clinical study that led to the FDA’s approval of this drug, 77% of patients treated experience at least a one point improvement in lip fullness, and approximately 59% maintained lip fullness for six months after their treatments. Because of its smooth particle gel formulation and the ultra-thin needle designed for accuracy, it gives a much more precise and natural-looking result.

Are There Any Side Effects or Risks?

As with other dermal fillers, the most common side effects are swelling, bruising, and pain. The best way to avoid these are to limit any medications that may cause increased bleeding. “If possible, I tell my patients to avoid ibuprofen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and aspirin prior to treatment,” says Dr. Hanson. A number of supplements can also predispose patients to bruising, including St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E.
