Top 4 Treatments For Excessive Sweating

June 23rd, 2025 | By: Admin

If you are one of over 220 million worldwide sufferers of excessive sweating, then finding a treatment option is vitally important. When you sweat excessively it doesn’t just make you feel self-conscious, but it also damages your clothing. So let’s consider the three best treatments for excessive sweating.

First, a definition: Hyperhidrosis is the medical name for uncontrollable sweating. This condition affects a large number of people, and often times can be very frustrating trying to get under control.

1. Switch your deodorant/antiperspirant

It’s important to make sure you are using the right products to help control your excessive sweating. If you just have excessive sweating, using a stronger-strength antiperspirant could be the answer you need. Using a clinical strength product may be more effective in controlling your sweating. “A prescription antiperspirant is one of the first steps we often take to help control sweating,” says Emily Johnston, certified physician assistant at Sanova Dermatology.

It’s also important to make sure you put your antiperspirant on at the right time of day. “If you apply it at night, for example, it often better absorbs into the skin, making it more effective for the next day,” says Emily.

2. Robinul

Robinul is an anticholinergic drug, which means that it works to prevent stimulation of the sweat glands. This medication has been proven to be effective in the treatment of hyperhidrosis. If you’ve not tried taking prescription medication in order to control your excessive sweating, this is a great option for you to consider. “Patients tell me this once or twice-a-day pill is great, especially before big work events, interviews and public presentations,” says Dr. Adam Mamelak, board certified dermatologist in Austin, Texas.

3. Botox Injections

If you’ve already tried medications and prescription strength products, you may want to consider Botox injections. Botox works by blocking the chemical signals sent to your sweat glands, and thus is able to control your sweating. Botox can be used very effectively for underarm sweating, palms, feet and other areas. “I do a lot of these treatments right before weddings,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, dermatologist and cosmetic skin care specialist at Sanova. “With all the stress that can go along with your big day, it’s one less thing to worry about.”

4. miraDry

“By far, one of the greatest innovations in the treatment of excessive sweating has been miraDry!” claims Dr. Hanson. miraDry is a handheld device that is used to deliver precisely controlled electromagnetic energy beneath the underarm skin where your sweat glands are located. This method is actually thought to remove the sweat glands and help to control your excessive sweating. This procedure is usually done once, and possibly a second time three months later.

“Patients love this procedure because the results are immediate and long lasting,” says Emily Johnston, PA-C. “With such significant decreases in sweat production, they can literally throw away their deodorant!”
